How do I prepare myself for the B assessment?
Read the formative text
  • After reading, write 2–3 sentences in Spanish answering:
  • ¿De qué trata el texto? (What is the text about?)
  • ¿Qué detalles son interesantes?
  • Summarize the main idea in 1–2 sentences
  • Write down 5 new words with their meanings and examples
  • Copy useful phrases (Me gusta... A veces... Nunca... Este verano...)
Learn the features and formats of:
  • Emails: Hola..., ¿Cómo estás?, Hasta pronto.
  • Blogs: Include a title, informal tone, and opinions
  • Diaries: Use date, Querido diario, express emotions
For strand iii
  • Give your opinion and compare the experiences of the character to your own
  • ALL OF THESE IN SPANISH!

Read the tips for each strand in the next slides

Strand i
During the assessment:
Read the questions first before the text. This helps you know what to look for.
Highlight or underline key words in both the question and the text (names, places, dates, feelings).

Don’t try to understand every word. Focus on:
Cognates (words that look similar in English and Spanish, like animal, familia, inteligente)
Repetition of ideas (this may give you implicit information)
Context clues to guess unknown words

Slide 7 - Slide

Strand ii
Identify the text type: Is it a diary, blog, email, article, or message? Knowing this helps you understand the purpose.

Look for text features:
  • Dates in a diary
  • Headings or bullet points in an article
  • Greeting and closing in an email
  • Pay attention to tone (formal/informal) and pronouns used (tú/usted). (see if there are emojis, for example)
Ask yourself: Why did the author use this word or structure?

Slide 8 - Slide

Strand iii
Answer in complete sentences and in SPANISH.

  • Use information from the text. Don’t make up answers. Support your ideas with evidence (e.g., En el texto dice que.../ ins the text it says that...).
  • If asked for your opinion, connect it to the text:
  • Creo que al personaje le gustan las vacaciones porque en el texto dice “qué divertido/qué guay”.
  • Be careful with true/false or multiple-choice questions, go back to the exact part of the text to check.
  • For inference questions (e.g., how someone feels), look at both the words and actions of the characters.

Summative D
Read carefully and in silence the summative task description.

     The link is here

Slide 13 - Slide

Read again the summative task instructions and think of the possible places and situations to develop the content:

The instructions are:
“Create a comic in Spanish that includes the following information:
  • Introdtion (name, age, nationality) of the comic’s main characters
  • Tell the new student what your daily routine and hobbies are
  • Describe the city you live in
  • Give directions on how to arrive at the AICS starting from the student’s house
  • Explain where the music room and library are in your school
  • Invite the new student to go to the cinema. Set the time and place.
  • The Spanish-speaking student should make a comment to compare his/her city to the city of Amsterdam
  • The Spanish-speaking student should make a comment to compare the weather in his/her country to the weather in Amsterdam”

Instructions

Write simple short dialogues in Spanish (you will write longer ones and will correct your spelling later).

For the Summative Assessment you need to create between 10-12 (no more than 12) panels and they should contain 100-150 words in total.
