What: To understand basic colour theory β primary, secondary and tertiary. To mix colours.
How: We will look at the colour wheel. We will learn the group names, such as Primary and Secondary colours. We will use paints.
Why: Because the colour wheel shows the colours and how they relate and work with each other. Colours are a huge part of our world and play a big part in art, especially in creating emotion, temperature and different styles of art. We will be exploring how colour can be used in this terms art lessons.
Starter: Make a colour wheel
Students to look at a print out of a colour wheel. Students to be assigned a colour β use colour cards.
Students to find items in the room representing that colour. Place in correct colour wheel sequence.
LA β students could work with verbal and visual support, being reminded of the colour they are searching for. Students who struggle matching colours could carry a colouring pen or square with them whilst searching, to match correctly.
MA β Students could be given the opportunity to be more independent in their searching, have a visual prompt of the colour wheel to help them sequence the colour wheel.
HA β could take leader roles and work in small groups to create own wheel with minimal support. Could challenge students to sequence the wheel with less or no visual support.
