At the end of the lesson you will be able to describe life in Scottish castles and explain the role of knights.

What is a Castle?

A castle is a large, strong building built in the past to protect people from enemies. Castles were often homes for important people like kings and knights.

Who were the Knights?

Knights were brave warriors who protected their land and served their king or lord. They wore metal armour and fought in battles.

Life Inside a Castle

Inside a castle, there were many people, including servants, cooks, and guards. Castles had large halls for feasts and thick walls for defence.

How Were Castles Defended?

Castles had high walls, moats, and towers to protect against enemies. Knights and soldiers guarded the gates and used weapons to defend the castle.

The Code of Chivalry

Knights followed the Code of Chivalry, which meant being loyal, brave, and kind. They were expected to help those in need.
