• Between 1824-1826 Mombasa occupied by the UK
• Kenya contributed troops to the UK during WW1 & WW2
• 1952-1959: Mau Mau uprising against UK rule
• During the uprising, 11.000 'rebel' fighters died

Kenya & the UK

• Kenya gained independence in 1963
• 12 december 1964, Republic of Kenya was born
  
• It was a colony of the UK for 68 years
• First president, Jomo Kenyatta
