Resilience in Research: Staying Strong & Responsible

What do you already know about resilience?

Our Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson you will be able to understand resilience, recognise challenges, apply Islamic strategies for patience, and persevere with your AT1 career research—even when things get tough.

What Is Resilience?

Resilience means staying strong, patient and responsible especially during difficult moments. It’s about bouncing back, not giving up, and making wise decisions.

Resilience in School & Life

Being resilient helps you succeed at school and in everyday life. It lets you achieve goals despite setbacks, boredom, or frustration.

Setback Moments: Where Do You Need Resilience?

Examples: chores, family arguments, hard AT1 research topics.

School & Activities

Examples: tough homework, losing in sports, falling behind.

Home & AT1

Domino Demonstration: Setback or Collapse?

Like dominoes, one setback doesn't mean you should fall apart! Resilience helps you stand back up after being knocked down.

Linking to AT1: Career Research

Your AT1 career research might feel hard, repetitive, or frustrating. Like real workers, you need to keep going and make responsible choices.

Why Is Perseverance Amānah?

Perseverance is part of Amānah (trustworthiness) in Islam. Finishing what you start and being responsible is an act of faith and integrity.

Islamic Strategies for Patience

• Make du’a when frustrated • Take a short mindful break • Seek help or advice • Remember the value of sabr (patience) in Islam

Other Resilience Tips

Reframing Thoughts

Breaking Tasks

Split the job into mini-goals and focus on one at a time.

Change ‘I can’t do this’ to ‘I will try another way’.

Ask for Help

It’s okay to ask classmates, teachers or family for help when you are stuck on something difficult—this shows responsibility.

Resilience Scenario 1: Stuck in AT1 Research

Imagine you can’t find credible labour market information for your career choice. What is your emotional reaction? What would be an Islamic response? What practical strategy could you use?

Resilience Scenario 2: Boring Task

You’re finding the employment growth section boring and frustrating. What thoughts go through your mind? What step would help you continue?

Resilience Scenario 3: Home or School Challenge

Think of a time at home or school when you almost gave up. What helped you keep going? What would you do differently next time?

Let’s Practise: Push Through One AT1 Section

Choose a demanding part of your AT1 planning: employment trends, halal/haram check, or credible sources. Stay resilient, apply a strategy, and keep working for 15 minutes.

Goal Review Reflection

Write: ‘One AT1 section I pushed through today was…’ and ‘One resilience strategy I used was…’

Write down 3 things you learned in this lesson.

Write down 2 things you want to know more about.

Ask 1 question about something you haven't quite understood yet.
