Why?
De comparative trap and the vergrotende superlative are used to compare nouns like things/persons/ animals with each other.
For example:
She is a smart person.
He is smarter. ( comparitive)
She is the smartest. ( superlative)

Slide 3 - Slide

How?
For the comparitive you write -er behind the adjective.
smart = smarter

For the superlative you write -est behind the adjective
smart = smartest

MIND!!
When an adjective ends on een e , then you only need to add  -r of -st erachter: Example: close - closer - closest
When it ends on a,e,i,o,u + 1 consonant, you then double the consonant. Examples:  big - bigger - biggest/fat-fatter-fattest
When it ends on -y , you add -ier of -iest achter:
Examples: dry - drier - driest / happy-happier-happiest

Exceptions
With words with 2 or more syllables , you do something different! You add : more or most
Examples: beautiful - more beautiful - most beautiful /
expensive- more expensive- most expensive
Some more important exceptions:
good/well - better - best
bad/ill - worse - worst
