Modals
Hoofdwerkwoorden (walk, eat) kunnen veranderen afhankelijk van de tijd (walked, ate), maar je kunt hulpwerkwoorden gebruiken om aan te geven dat je iets kan doen, mag doen, wil doen, enzovoorts.
- Can you walk to school?                    - I might come to your party.
- You shouldn't walk to school.          - I must clean this up.
- I will walk to school.                             - You have to be on time.

Types of Modals: 1
Modals for permission: May, might, be allowed to 
May = mogen 
Might = zou mogen (en beleefde vragen)
Be allowed to = mogen (regels)

"You may come to my party." & "I might be able to come."

Modals for obligations: Must, Have to, Should, Ought to 
Should = zou (eigenlijk) moeten, vooral bij advies/afraden
Must = moeten (als je zelf vindt dat iets moet)
Have to = moeten (als iemand anders vindt dat iets moet)
Ought to = dienen (jezelf en andere advies te geven)
"I must finish this book this afternoon."
"You have to be on time tomorrow." 
"You should really pay more attention in class."
"I ought to go to the gym."
