  • Can = kunnen
  • Could = zou kunnen (en beleefde vragen)
"I can't come to your party" & "Could you help me out?"

  • May = mogen 
  • Might = zou mogen (en beleefde vragen)
"You may come to my party." & "I might be able to come."

  • Will = zal (iets dat in de toekomst gaat gebeuren)
    "I will come to your party" 
  • Shall = zal (bij hulp aanbieden)                                                                                "Shall I help you out?"
  • Would = zou willen / zouden (beleefde vragen & als iets zou gebeuren)
      "I would like to help."

  • Should = zou (eigenlijk) moeten, vooral bij advies/afraden                               "You should really pay more attention in class."
  • Must = moeten (als je zelf vindt dat iets moet)                                                         "I must finish this book this afternoon."
  • Have to = moeten (als iemand anders vindt dat iets moet)
       "You have to be on time tomorrow."
