ADJECTIVES kunnen worden afgeleid van ADVERBS door de uitgang -ly aan het betreffende ADJECTIVE toe te voegen.
  • He wrote a beautiful book (adjective, over zn 'book')
  • He wrote beautifully (adverb, over ww 'write')
  • Her skin is smooth (adjective, na koppelww 'to be')
  • The car drove smoothly (adverb, over ww 'drive')

  • Andere adverbs houden dezelfde vorm als adjectives  (A fast car. It drives fast)
