  • Ribonucleic acid (RNA) is similar to DNA in structure but different in function. RNA is involved in coding, regulating, and expressing genes.

Why would RNA need to have a difference?

  • Messenger RNA (mRNA)

  • Ribosomal RNA (rRNA)

  • Transfer RNA (tRNA):

There are three kinds of RNA:

  • the type of RNA that transcribes (copies) the genetic code (message) of DNA. It carries this message from the nucleus to ribosomes in the cytoplasm.

Messenger RNA (mRNA)

  • the type of RNA that makes up a ribosome. Ribosomes read mRNA.

Ribosomal RNA (rRNA)

  • the type of RNA that brings amino acids to the ribosome (translates message) during protein synthesis.

Transfer RNA (tRNA)
