  • Can: asking for permission (or ability, in some cases)
Can I go to the toilet? --> asking for permission, not ability
  • Have to: necessity, or an obligation by someone else
I have to make my homework.
  • Must: obligation we made ourselves
I must get my nails trimmed because I can't type like this!

Mustn't is a counter demand (do not do that thing!)

You musn't fall asleep during class.
