Literature P2: War & Society

Goal: Using a broad understanding of literary vocabulary as support, I can discuss various works of literature and their historical context.

MO P3

MO of 15 minutes in which you'll discuss the two books you've read.

You'll give a presentation about 1 of the books for about 5 minutes. 

The remaining time will be spend discussing both books. 

Your presentation should be original. It should NOT be a spoken word book report.

Life of Pi - How animals are used as a symbol. 

How to kill a mockingbird - The effect of othering.

Normal People - Toxic relationships (love/friends/family)

Fight Club - Capitalism

Gone Girl - Who's the real villain? 

Jane Eyre - Character development

Use examples/ quotes/ scenes from the books to illustrate your points. 

DO NOT SUMMARIZE!

Show deeper understanding of the book, don't just mention what is written, but draw your own conclusion. Your opinion is valid and interesting. 

Do research. You're not supposed to know everything. After doing your own analysis look for other people's thoughts on your book. 

10 minutes

Start jotting down ideas about the following topics with regards to your own novel:

-themes

-plot / storyline

-settings / historical context

-the main conflict (inciting incident) of the story / side conflicts

-memorable scenes / memorable quotes

-ways you see yourself in the novel 

-comparison with other works you have read

-other remarkable points

Test Correct

-Please download the App “Test Correct” and login using Entree

-Any issues must be reported and resolved before next class.

We'll use this in a later week to do a diagnostic reading test in preparation for the TW2.
