Plants provide the food for other animals, they are producers (first link)

Animals eat (consume) the plants. They are consumers
Producers -> primary consumers -> secondary consumers etc. 

Not all plants and animals get eaten.. they can also simply die. Scavengers will use remains.

Sloths

The sloth from Brazil hangs upside down in the trees of the rainforest for most of its life. It feeds on leaves and young buds. Once a week he descends to relieve himself in a hole. Among other things, dung beetles = mestkevers are attracted to this. Microscopic algae live in the sloth's coat, which gives it its green camouflage color. Between the hairs there are also small insects that live on the algae and hair lice that use the hair as food.
Bacteria and yeast live on the food waste in his intestines.
