Possessive of

Je gebruikt of  als de eigenaar van iets GEEN persoon, dier, land of organisatie is.

voorbeelden of

• The corner of the street.
• The colour of the door. 
• The name of the ship is Aquarius.

Possessive '

Bij eigenaren (personen, dieren, landen en organisaties) in het meervoud gebruik je ' als het meervoud eindigt op -s

voorbeelden '

Dus:

• My sisters' book.
• Those dogs' favourite ball.
• My parents' car.

Possessive 's 

Je gebruikt het bij eigenaren:

• Personen, dieren, landen en organisaties (ook als ze al op een -s eindigen)
• Meervouden die niet op -s eindigen (!)

voorbeelden 's

• Charles's toys are new. 
• The cat's bowl is empty. 
• The children's playground is a lot of fun.
• She looks at the club's website.
• London is Great Britain's capital.

Als je moet kiezen tussen ' / 's ' of, dan is het handig om jezelf de volgende vragen te stellen:

1. Is iets GEEN persoon, dier, land of organisatie? 

Gebruik dan of

2. Is iets wel een persoon, dier, land of organisatie en is het een meervoud op -s? 

Gebruik dan '

3. In alle andere gevallen gebruik je 's!
