Meaning of 'Dance Macabre'

The expression is an odd kind of English. 

Normally adjective before the noun (Macabre Dance).

Old fixed expression from the Middle Ages. 

Often written in medieval French form danse macabre. In French, adjectives come after the noun.

It is sometimes "translated" into English as The Dance of Death.

How do you pronounce the word 'lieutenant'?

1. Leff-te-nant
2. Loo-te-nant

Leff = meer richting Britse uitspraak

Loo = meer richting Amerikaanse uitspraak

What sort of place was Fort Union?

- army garrison

- a fortified place where the army gathers to train or a place to station soldiers

- anything close to the answers above

What caused an alert at the fort?

1. British soldiers were nearby.
2. Indians were nearby.
3. There was a fire.
4. There was a wedding.

What can you say about the lady's love for the lieutenant?

Her love for the lieutenant is probably not as grand as his love for her.

Why were the musicians very surprised?

They started producing music unwillingly. They did not know the music they were playing.

A demonic force had forced them to play music they had never played before.

Why were people astonished to see the lieutenant at the wedding ?

They believed he was missing and/or dead.

He looked terrifying (covered in blood and a big dark cut across his forehead).
