What are Decimals?

Decimals are numbers that have a fractional part separated by a decimal point. They are used to represent values between whole numbers.

Rounding Decimals

To round decimals, identify the place to round to, look at the digit immediately to its right. If 5 or more, round up. Otherwise, round down.

Decimal Places

Decimal places are the number of digits to the right of the decimal point. Rounding affects the precision of a number.

Significant Figures

Significant figures reflect the precision of a number. Start counting from the first non-zero digit. Round based on the required number of significant figures.

Rounding to Significant Figures

Identify the number of significant figures needed. Round the number based on the standard rounding rules.
