You can use verbs + to infinitive and -ing forms

Can you stop to buy bread from the supermarket? 
Can you stop buying bread from the supermarket?

  1. You are going to the supermarket to buy bread. 
  2. Someone says that you should stop buying bread.

You use verb + to infinitive (hele ww) with these verbs: 
agree, allow, ask, choose, decide, hope, forget, learn, offer, plan, try, want, ’d like, ’d prefer

Ms. Wildeman chooses not to speak Dutch.
Tim and Tom want to go on vacation together.
M3A students agree to do all their homework.

You use verb +  to infinitive with these verbs:
avoid, can’t stand, enjoy, finish, look forward to, (not) mind, miss, practice, stop

I enjoy going home after a long day.
Ms. Wildeman can't stand watching long movies.
