Lesson 3
Lesson 3
Today we will be writing our own calligram poem in the style of ‘The Apple’ that we looked at yesterday. You can create the poem about a piece of fruit of your choice. Let’s start by creating a list of nouns and adjectives that can be used to describe fruit for our reader. Can you guess which fruit my calligram will be about?
Are there any more words we could add to this table?
Banana
Strawberry
Pineapple
Apple
Pear
Watermelon
Orange
Grapes
Peach
Choose one of these fruits to talk about with your partner. Use these prompts
to describe your chosen fruit.
Now you are going to choose a fruit and using the sheet on
your table, generate your own adjectives and nouns for your
chosen fruit.
Here is an example of a calligram poem about a banana.
Activity:
Mild: work as a group with adult support to create a calligram about your chosen
fruit.
Spicy: using the word mat provided create your own calligram about a piece of
fruit.
Hot: create your own calligram about a piece of fruit, using repetition and
humour.
Things to check for.
Have you included repetition?
Have you used relevant adjectives and nouns?
Will your reader be entertained by your calligram?
Have you included any humour?
