What is a producer?

This lesson we are going to take a look at food chains and webs in more detail, starting with the first level in a food chain.
The lowest level of a food chain is called a producer. Ask students what they think a producer means?
Illegal Fishing
Illegal fishing means that the fishermen enter the territorial waters of a country or regulated marine zone without permission or without a license for the fish they intend to catch.

They are stealing from these waters.
WHAT IS A PRODUCER

Producers create their own food, by synthesizing their own energy

This means they create their own food from energy, such as from the sun.

Can you name a producer?

Ask students if they can name a producer?
Examples include phytoplankton algae, kelp and sea grass. They use nutrients from the water and sun to grow.

They provide the energy for other species. They create the first level of food from the sun’s energy.
