You use the definite article "the" to refer to a specific person or thing.

  • The president gave a speech.
    or
  • The books are on the table.

  • The president gave a speech.
    or
  • The books are on the table.
You leave out THE when you talk about persons or things in general.
 
You also leave it out with certain buildings (hospital, church, school, university, prison) if you are there for its specific purpose.

The imperative is used to give directions and orders, and to advise and warn people. 

To make an imperative, you use the infinitive form of the verb.
