Als er een vorm van to be (am/is/are/was/were) in de zin staat mag je die vóóraan zetten om de zin vragend te maken:

Als er een hulpwerkwoord (modal verb) in de zin staat mag je die ook vóóraan zetten om de zin vragend te maken:
examples of modal verbs:
can, could, will, would, may, might, must, should

Let op: have is ook een hulpwerkwoord als er got bij staat!

Als er géén vorm van to be of modal verb in de zin staat moet je een vorm van to do als hulpwerkwoord gebruiken. 

Present simple: do/does + infinitive (does bij he/she/it)
Past simple: did + infinitive

Negations
Achter een vorm van to be en modal verbs mag je het woordje not zetten. Vaak gebruik je dan de afkorting:

He can't come to the match on Saturday. 
We won't (will not) help you with that. 
There aren't any tomatoes left.

Als er géén vorm van to be of modal verb in de zin staat moet je een vorm van to do gebruiken om de negation te maken:

Present simple: don't/doesn't + infinitive
Past simple: didn't + infinitive
