What is Boris Johnson (British PM) apologizing for in his speech?

Slide 10 - Open question

Summary
During the last lockdown in the United Kingdom, On 10, Downing Street, Prime Minister Boris Johnson supposedly threw many parties for staff members. Rumour has it he had even thrown a party when one of his opposition leaders resigned. The general public reacted very angrily after the results of the report had become known. Recently a poll showed that about 75% of the population wanted Boris Johnson to resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. In a speech later this week, he deeply apologized for what had happened, but the opposition demanded an investigation to be conducted (uitgevoerd).

My opinion
Even though I know Boris Johnson is a hard-working politician, I think he has shown a very bad example here. He had been very careless by throwing parties while the rest of the British citizens had to stay inside and weren’t even able to celebrate anything at all. Think about patients who were in hospital and couldn’t receive any family members. I can imagine they are surely incredibly angry about feeling resentment towards their leader during that time. I can really relate to the British people when it comes to their opinion about Boris Johnson’s parties. I wouldn't accept it if our Prime Minister did the same thing.
