What Makes a Story?
Stories are made of people (characters), places (settings), and things that happen (events).
Nouns and Verbs: The Building Blocks
Nouns
Verbs
Verbs are action words. They show what someone or something does. Example: run, jump, think.
Nouns are people, places, animals, or things. Example: cat, city, teacher.
Adjectives Add Detail
Adjectives describe nouns. They tell us what something looks, smells, feels, or sounds like. Example: tall building, loud dog.
Adverbs Make Actions Exciting
Adverbs change verbs. They tell us how, when, or where actions happen. Example: She ran quickly. He spoke quietly.
Putting It All Together
Using nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, you can write interesting sentences and build stories with exciting events and vivid characters.

The dog ran.
