Ik krijg vaak de vraag van leraren: moeten scholen streng zijn of een plek waar leerlingen zich geaccepteerd voelen? De PISA-cijfers geven ons duidelijk antwoord: het gaat niet om kiezen tussen strengheid óf verbondenheid, maar om volledige inzet voor beide. Enkel leerlingen die zowel een strenge discipline ervaren als zich thuis voelen, presteren significant beter - zowel op taal als rekenen. Belangrijk daarom om de nadruk op deze warm-strenge aanpak te leggen.
