Turn your article into a script
What do you need to consider when turning an article into a script?

  • The story has to be told, that might mean altering words/sentences to make it ‘flow’ better
  • Who says what
  • KISS – keep it short and simple
  • Make sure to keep it entertaining -> use humor

Think about this!
  • Think about the roles: you have a news anchor 1-2 people (nieuwspresentator), a reporter (verslaggever), maybe a weather man/girl  : who is who?
  • Think of a good introduction: Most anchor introductions begin by greeting the audience with “Good evening,” “Good morning,” or “Welcome”.
  • After the introduction you’re going to give a short description of the news segments you are going to present in your news broadcast.
  • Example: today’s stories include the heartwarming tale of a girl and her pet turtle, a look at rising employment levels, and a clip of the Hurricane’s win at the football championships last night.”
  • The news anchor (nieuwspresentator) will appear after each article and announces the next news segment.

Think about this!
  • Always properly end your news broadcast.
  •  The anchor should end the newscast with a short sign off. The sign off can be something simple like, “Thanks for watching your local news. On behalf of all of us at Channel 7, see you next time.”
  • It’s okay to use humour or funny jokes in your news broadcast! This will make it more entertaining.

Slide 7 - Slide

What now
  • Make groups -> minimal of 3  and max of 5 students
  • Gather all your fake news project and write the script!
  • Think about: who is going to do what article?
  • How are you going to make this news broadcast entertaining?
  • What are fun things you can add to your news broadcast?
  • You can edit your broadcast in an app: iMovie or something else
