Compounds  
Some and any are quantifiers, but so are no and every.

Compounds are quantifiers in combination with -thing , -body / one and -where (plaatsen)

Something, anybody, no one, everywhere.

Use some in confirmations:
1. There are some children in the street.

Use any in negative sentences:

Gerunds
Een werkwoord dat wordt gebruikt als zelfstandig naamwoord en eindigt op -ing is een gerund.

Een werkwoord wat helemaal aan het begin van een zin staat is dus altijd een gerund:
Singing gives me great pleasure.
Reading a book calms me down.

Gerunds
De gerund komt meestal na werkwoorden als (dis)like, love, hate, miss en avoid.
 
I love going to parties. / I dislike travelling to Mexico. --> zn
Ik hou van het gaan naar feestjes.

MAAR: I would like to come to the party. --> ww

To + infinitive
To + infinitive kan neergezet worden na het lijdend voorwerp van de zin.

I asked him to read a book.
We invited a friend to come along with us.
Please remind your brother to wash the dishes.

Achter sommige werkwoorden kan to + infinitive komen te staan. Voorbeelden zijn to hope, to ask, to refuse, to expect.

I hope to become a famous football player.
He was expected to pay for the bad painting job.
Restaurants refuse to give people plastic straws.

To + infinitive kan ook neergezet worden na een aantal bijvoeglijke naamwoorden die je gebruikt om je mening te uiten.

It is not easy  to do three things at once.
It is wonderful  to have many great friends.
He is happy  to help you.
