  • Read this story: Willie Bermingham
  • He believed that we all have a responsibility to care for those who are less fortunate than ourselves
  • He also believed that a community’s worth should be based on how they treat their poorest and most helpless members

  • Willie Bermingham began with a huge poster campaign to highlight the awful conditions that many elderly people lived in
  • Donations poured in from the public and every penny was used to provide shelter, clothing, food and support for the elderly
  • He lobbied ministers in government and civil servants to act quickly

He did not mind if he stepped on peoples’ toes because he was focused on what he wanted to do to improve the lives of many elderly people
He won a People of the Year Award in 1979
He died in 1990 but ALONE continues to be committed to working with older people across Ireland to this day

  • Now at 16 years old, she is a well-known climate activist
