Introduction

Mystery Guest is an interactive and playful method in which students have to guess a mysterious concept, person, object or word based on gradually revealed hints or facts. The goal is to get students actively engaged with the course material by testing and repeating their knowledge of previously covered topics. This working method stimulates memory, analytical thinking and collaboration.

What is it?

The goal is to get students actively engaged with the course material by testing and repeating their knowledge of previously covered topics. This working method stimulates memory, analytical thinking and collaboration.

How do you make it?

You can easily design this method by using hotspots and an open question slide:

Step 1: Create a blank slide

Add an image or a neutral background to focus on the facts.

Use 4-8 hotspots in which you add hints that go from difficult to easy.

Step 2: Add facts

Click on a hotspot and add a short text with a hint (for example: "I am part of the digestive system").

Arrange the facts from challenging to easy so that students get closer to the answer step by step.

Step 3: Open question slide:

After the hotspot slide, add an open question slide where students can fill in the answer. For example: "Who or what do you think the Secret Guest is?"

Insert the correct answer into LessonUp for students to check.

Have students give their answers individually or in teams.

How do you deploy it?

This working method can be used at various times in your lesson.

Beforehand: Check which concepts the students remember from the previous lesson.

Application: After your instruction, check whether your students have remembered the correct concepts.

Because this method can be easily adapted to level and content, it can be used for almost every subject and every level. It does require some creativity to make. In this lesson, you will find some examples. This time, the subjects will be history, biology, and English.
