In het Engels zijn er 2 regels voor de trappen van vergelijking (en natuurlijk een aantal uitzonderingen)

Bij korte woorden (1 of 2 lettergrepen) komt er -er en -est achter het woord:

small - smaller - smallest

fast - faster - fastest

big - bigger - biggest

een woord eindigt op E dan gebeurt het volgende:

close - closer - closest

je voegt alleen -r- of -st- toe.

De medeklinker verdubbelt.
