Casting is a big part of the production.
You need to make a character profile (class, background, gait, age etc).
Use Media Therapy (@Facebook) for casting calls & see current practice.
Pick Key scenes that explore the characters behaviour and mental state.

Select 'Sides' Carefully & let them prepare.
'Cold readings' are unfair
Ask yourself:
Is the Actor right for the part?
The actor's attention to simple reality?
Can you work with the actor?

Talk about circumstances and wants: This helps an actor understand the actions that are akin to the ones you have imagined.
Be honest with them about what works or does not.
Create a good atmosphere for taking risks.
