Definition
The past simple is a verb tense used to describe actions or events that happened and finished in the past.
Forming the Past Simple
Regular verbs: Add -ed (play → played). Irregular verbs use unique forms (go → went).
Regular vs Irregular Verbs
Regular verbs follow a rule (add -ed). Irregular verbs do not follow this pattern. Practice recognising both types.
Negative and Question Forms
Use 'did not' (didn't) for negatives: "She didn't play." For questions start with 'Did': "Did you play?"
