At the end of the lesson you will confidently solve problems using the relationship between speed, distance and time, and explain how these concepts connect.

What is Speed?

Speed tells us how fast something is moving.

The Speed Formula

Speed = Distance /Time.

Standard units:

Distance: metre (m),

Time: seconds (s), and

Speed: metre per second (m/s).

Changing the Formula

Distance = Speed x Time


Time = Distance/Speed



You can rearrange the formula to find distance or time if you know the other values.

Standard Units Explained

Measured in seconds (s). Sometimes given in minutes or hours.

Measured in metres (m). Can also be measured in kilometres (km)
