Thank a Teacher Day is on 19th of June, 2024. It is a day to celebrate all who work in schools and to thank them for their role in shaping our children and young people.

On June 21st, students are encouraged to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who works in our schools

Outline the objective of the lesson so that students know what they will learn and be able to do by the end of the lesson.

Why have 'Thank a Teacher' Day?

Why do you think it is important to say "Thank You" to our school staff?

You may wish to extend the scope of this question so that students think about the work of all within the school; the office staff, kitchen team, site supervision, pastoral, attendance, etc.

Thanking all our school staff helps: 

🙋‍♂️ Builds a positive relationship with you.

 
👏 Makes them feel valued and appreciated.

🦸‍♀️ Motivates staff to continue doing their best. 

Explain the importance of thanking teachers and how it can benefit both teachers and students.

Consider using the spinner to direct the focus of the conversation towards different roles within the school.

Say 'Thank You' Today!

Let's use the spinner to write a thank you note, card or picture to a member of the school staff. 

 Include specific examples of how they have helped you and why you appreciate them.

Provide examples of ways to thank a teacher and encourage students to brainstorm their own ideas.

Compile thoughts here which shows the vast range of jobs that are needed to help run our school. 

Use this slide to encourage students to interact with staff across the school. You may wish to share this photo album with the rest of the school to celebrate the staff team.

Consider who might be missing. Challenge students to capture every job within the school.

Share some stories about how school staff have made a difference in your life.

Ask students to write down their personal experiences to share.

They may wish to think about their experiences in a different class or phase.

Consider sharing the experiences of some famous people as inspiration.

You may wish to share this very old advert which shows some famous faces talking about their teachers.

Upload your 'Thank You' notes and other expressions of gratitude to create a positive & supportive learning environment.

Why not create a teacher appreciation wall in your classroom or on a virtual platform. Encourage students to contribute to a teacher appreciation wall and explain how it can create a positive classroom culture.
