Skimming
- pictures
- headlines
- some words from first/last line of paragraph

why do we do this? to get a feel of what the text is about, who is in it, where you can find certain information. This is a skill, first you actively do it, at some point it will only take 5 seconds. 

- do this on the text you have. whats the picture about? etc.

Scanning
- After reading the question
- Ask yourself whats the subject?
- Look for a particular section
- look for particular words
- word association
