What are Double Digit Numbers?

Double digit numbers are numbers that have two digits, like 23 or 47. Being able to add them is an essential maths skill.

Step 1: Align the Numbers

How to Align

This helps make sure you add the correct digits together.

Write one number above the other, lining up the ones and tens columns.

Why Align?

Step 2: Start with the Ones Column

Always begin by adding the ones column (rightmost digits).

What if the Total is 10 or More?

If your addition in the ones column equals 10 or more, carry the tens digit over to the next column.

Step 3: Add the Tens Column

Now add the tens column, including any number you carried over. Write your final answer below the line.

Try It Yourself!

Add: 37 + 45. Start by aligning the numbers, then follow the steps. Can you carry over when needed?

Write down 3 things you learned in this lesson.

Write down 2 things you want to know more about.
