Different types of writing task

A range of writing tasks, including:

• Notice
• Letter
• Email

Your task

Identify the type of text in the following slides and list the format and layout used.

Describe what is needed for a speech.

Getting as many marks as possible

• Usually 4 marks for grammar, 4 marks for punctuation and 2 marks for spelling
• Make sure each sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.
• Does the sentence make sense on its own?
• One idea = one sentence
• Paragraphs must have at least 2/3 sentences (apart from first and last paragraph of letters/emails).

• 2 writing tasks
• Both will be formal
• One will be longer (9 marks)
• One will be shorter (6 marks)
• Read the scenario very carefully first (all of the text)
• Ensure you cover everything in the bullet points

Writing a paragraph

• Take one idea...
• Make a point with that idea
• Explain your point (This means that..This is because...)
• Give an example (An example of this is... For example...)

Proofreading

Use COPS to proofread each sentence:

• Capitals
• Words left Out
• Punctuation
• Spelling
