Slide 2 - Slide

In this lesson we’re going to continue making our recycled artworks, and we’re going to set up a small exhibition to show all our work to each other.

What will the exhibition look like? Let’s first see how Almond Blossom is displayed.
Van Gogh Museum

Slide 3 - Slide

This is the Van Gogh Museum. This Museum is in the Netherlands. Inside you can see some of Vincent’s most famous masterpieces, including Almond Blossom
Let's have a look how the main exhibition looks like. Go to google streetview en walk through the museum. (The Almond Blossom is shown on the third floor)
Discuss with the students: What stands out in the museum? What do they think about the way the Almond Blossom is displayed? Would they visit the museum by themselves?

In this lesson we’re going to continue making our recycled artworks, and we’re going to set up a small exhibition to show all our work to each other.

Title: Almond Blossom
Date: 1890
Collection: Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam

The students can spend the first 60 minutes making their recycled tree. They’ve made a sketch and collected materials. Now they can use them to make the tree.

The students need to think carefully about how they want to use the materials. And how they are going to attach them, use glue, staples and tape. Walk around and help the students as they make their artwork.

Looking for a nice piece of music to play while they’re working on their art? The
Vivencia album is based on the art of Vincent van Gogh!

Optional: If you want to take more time for the artwork, schedule an extra lesson.
Gallery walk

Slide 5 - Slide

Is everyone ready with the Recycle Art?
Let's create the Gallery walk! Create for every student a place where they can display their work. Round off the lesson by walking round the exhibition together and congratulate them on their work.

As you look at each part of the exhibition, consider the following questions:
- What do you notice about how the art is exhibited here?
- What do you remember from the lesson when we made these?
- What did you learn from making them?

Tips for the gallery walk:
- Install the gallery walk in a public place in school, so that other people, and other
students, can also see it.
- Give the students an assignment for the gallery walk. For example, questions they
have to ask at least three classmates.
- Invite some more people to come along!

Slide 6 - Slide

Reflect on the entire series.

Round off the series of lessons with two general questions:
- What have you learned about Vincent van Gogh in these lessons?
- What have you learned about yourself in these lessons?

NB: The second question is intended to start a conversation about how the kids relate to making art. Do they enjoy it, or is it a struggle? It was both for Vincent van Gogh. But he kept on practising, no matter what happened.

Try to draw more information out of the kids in this last discussion. What did you enjoy, what did you find easy, and what problems did you have? Is there a particular piece, or a part of something you made that you’re really proud of? Were you secretly jealous of something that someone else made? When you were making your artworks, were you worried the whole time about what it would look like, or were you able to let that go? Etc. Where possible, make links to Vincent, how he went about making art.
