Look for the form of the text: what kind of text is it? This helps you to get the gist.
Look at the heading. This tells you what the text will be about.
Look at the images. This also tells you what the text is about.
Look at the assignment. Then you know what you need to find in the text.

Skim; look for clues
Questions about certain information: Scan; look for specific words/numbers e.g.
If a question mentions a line number: read the whole paragraph to see the context.
Multiple-choice question: always in order of the text; read the question. then the text, then the answer possibilities.

Does the word look/sound like a word you know from other languages?
Use a dictionary (this does take some time, so be careful with it).
Learn signal words and common words (see next page).

Read the question and play the audio fragment.
Look for details and synonyms in answer possibilities and fragment.
Try not to change your answer; go for your gut feeling (during exam no replay possibility.
Keep working fast enough (time limit); ALWAYS fill in something and trust yourself and practise!
