Smart - smarter - smartest

How do you make comparisons?
Short words: +er or + est:
Short - Shorter - shortest 
Fast - faster - fastest

Add: than or the :
Layla is shorter than Tess. 
Emma is the shortest.

If a word ends in -e, only add +r or +st:
Nice - nicer - nicest 

If a word ends in -y, the -y changes to +ier or +iest:
Busy - busier - busiest

For long words (two syllables or more) use more or most:

Comfortable - more comfortable - most comfortable
