What is PROPAGANDA?

LO:  I can explore how Walt Disney made films to influence how people thought.

Propaganda is trying to influence how people think.

It is about trying to make them think a certain way.

During World War II Walt Disney made films for the US and Canadian governments to persuade people to buy government bonds to help to pay for the war.

Walt Disney and the governments were all against Hitler and they wanted people to know why they should fight him.

What does persuade mean?

Watch the following three cartoons and discuss what message Walt Disney is trying to give.
What is he trying to persuade people to do?

Making people laugh at the enemy gave them more confidence to fight.

Walt Disney also made anti-war cartoons in his own time.  

(anti means against)

The next cartoon tries to understand the enemy and how they have been influenced.
