What is the Present Simple?

The present simple is a verb tense used to talk about habits, routines, general truths, and facts.

When Do We Use It?

I wake up at 7 am. She walks to school every day.

Habits & Routines

The sun rises in the east. Water boils at 100°C.

General Facts

How to Form the Present Simple

Use the base form for most subjects: I/You/We/They play. Add -s or -es for he/she/it: She plays, He watches.

Negative Sentences

Use "do not (don’t)" or "does not (doesn’t)": I don’t eat meat. He doesn’t like coffee.

Questions in the Present Simple

Start with Do/Does: Do you play tennis? Does she speak French?
