  • During the test, you will need working wired headphones.
  • During the test you will have a set time to work through the questions so don't linger too long...

CITO Listening:
New tasks
1. Globaal luisteren: langer fragment (audio óf video, ongeveer 8 minuten), vragen over hoofdzaken na afloop, 1 keer luisteren (!), aantekeningen maken mag.
2. Selectief luisteren: fragmenten van 2 à 3 minuten, meerdere vragen per fragment, op details gericht, terug te luisteren.

Wat heb je nodig?
30% tekstbegrip (o.a. hoofd/bij zaken onderscheiden)
30% woordenschat
10% weet je (toevallig) al wat over het onderwerp
30% vaardigheid

Step 1: Introduction (Dutch)
  • Find out the main topic.
  • They will tell you in Dutch!

Step 2: Introduction (English)
  • Get used to the speakers' voices and accents;
  • Confirm main topic and listen for extra information;
  • Focus on picking up key words.

Step 3: Reading question
  • You have about 15 seconds during the test;
  • Keep main topic in mind;
  • Identify positives and negatives in the answers.

Step 4: Listen for key info and link ABC

  • Keep in mind the main gist (de grote lijn);
  • Try to focus on "signaalwoorden". (but, for example, besides...)

Step 5: Back to the question
  • Elimination: which answer can you cross off?
  • Compare positives and negative answers to what you heard.
  • On the real test you only have a couple of seconds for this.

  • Focus on main gist when using other footage;
  • Watch and listen to as many materials as possible:
  • Podcasts (BBC The Why Factor, New York Times Daily); the news (CNN10, BBC); programmes (BBC Panorama); documentaries; British Netflix series.
