which = dieren en dingen

that = personen, dieren en dingen

That is informeel, who/which is formeler.

Baking is something which I can't get enough of.

Swimming is a hobby that takes up a lot of my time

Soms is de bijzin noodzakelijk om te begrijpen over wie het gaat, dan kan who, which of that vaak weggelaten worden.

This is the man (who) I was talking about.

I bought the bicycle (that) the shop had on sale.

Relative clauses

Je kunt who en which samen met voorzetsels gebruiken. Meestal staat het voorzetzel dan achteraan in de bijzin.

The gym which we always practice in is closed.

The instructor, who you told me about, is really nice.

Het voorzetsel kan ook vooraan in de bijzin staan, dit is formeler. Who verandert met een voorzetsel vaak in whom.
