Before you start reading a text what can you do to have an idea of what the text is about?

Slide 5 - Mind map

voorspellend lezen/skimmen
voorspellend lezen = without reading the text, predicting what it is about. Take a look at the pictures, the source, type of text (newspaper article, fiction story, blog, interview etc.), title, subheadings. 
skimmen = to have a quick idea what the text is about. You can read the first sentence of each paragraph and the last sentence. Remember that the texts can be long on your exam.

  1. Always read the question first before looking at the text! 
  2. Take a look at the multiple choice answers. Do you know each word? Look it up in a dictionary. 
  3. Formulate your own answer and compare these to the answers given.
  4. OR wegstrepen = cross out the answers that are definitely wrong!

- Always answer in Dutch. English = 0 points 
- Try to be precise do not give vague/general answers. Example: "Je moet tot een bepaalde categorie behoren."
- Spelling/language mistakes do not count. 
- citation questions: citeer (=schrijf over uit de tekst) 
Always answer in English by using the first 2 words of the sentence followed by the paragraph number.
