Regulation
The nervous system controls the operation of muscles and glands.

Hormone glands produce substances that control processes in your body.

The nervous system works together with the endocrine system.

What are hormones?
Notes:
  • hormones=substances that control the functioning of organs

Regulating the glucose level
Notes:
  • Islets of Langerhans produces insulin and glucagon
  • Blood sugar level = amount of glucose in your blood
  • Insulin = changes glucose into glycogen which can be stored in fat and muscles,
  • Glucagon = changes glycogen into glucose when you need energy

Adrenaline
  • Adrenal glands make the hormone adrenaline.
  • Adrenaline makes the liver concert glycogen into glucose.
  • Blood glucose level rises.
  • Heart beats faster.
  • You breath faster.
  • 'Fight-or-flight' hormone.
  • Has a fast, short-term effect.
