How does it work?
LessonUp is an open platform where lesson content is publicly visible.
We recommend using copyright-free images or visuals under one of the Creative Commons licences. In all cases, it’s good practice to include correct attribution when using images.
This lesson explains how to do that:
Attribution and open content
- Open content may be used, provided correct source attribution is applied.
- The best way to cite sources depends on the type of content and the context in which it is used.
Example: APA style for film and video
- Format: Director, J. (Year). Title of film [Movie]. Producer.
- Example: Nolan, C. (2010). Inception [Film]. Warner Bros.
💡 Tip: when using your own images in a lesson, teachers can save the lesson/slides but not copy or download the images themselves.
⚠️ Note: when real people are part of an image, you need their permission to use that image.
ROYALTY-FREE IMAGES
Use imagery from websites such as:
- Freepik: high-quality photos, vectors, videos and mockups
- Unsplash: good quality photos
- Flaticon: free icons
- Forvo: words pronounced in different languages, good for language subjects
- CC Search: a search engine for searching Creative Commons images
