Lesson 1 - What is IUU fishing activity?

    Discuss and investigate by-catch and the reasons why IUU takes place.

Lesson 2 - How does IUU impact the ecosystem?

This lesson covers: how IUU fishing activity impacts species, food chains and ecosystems.

Learning activities:
    Discussion and research on the impacts to species and the food chain of IUU fishing activity.

Lesson 3 - What are the risks to consumers?

This lesson discusses the risk to consumers of eating fish and what their purchase may be supporting.

Learning activities:
    Discussion and research activities on what fish can be found at local markets, identifying the source and potential risks to consumers.

Lesson 4 - How does IUU impact human rights?

This lesson covers the conditions on board fishing vessels and the issue of slavery / human trafficking.

Learning activities:
    Discussion and research on how people end up on fishing vessels and why it is occurring.

Lesson 5 - Laws to protect against IUU activity

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

This lesson discusses the ways to protect the ocean from IUU, such as marine protected areas, regulation of fishing and monitoring.

Learning activities:
    Discuss how fishing vessels are inspected.
    Research the ways in which countries can work together via Interpol or regional cooperation.
