Learning Objectives

  • Examine some effective study techniques

  • Explore some ways to manage your time effectively while on leave

  • Discuss how we can support each other on study leave

Effective Learning!

  • Be actively engaged in your learning - copying out a notebook isn't going to engage your brain!

  • Repetition! The more you cover something, the more it cements itself in your own understanding.

  • Variety! Change up the way you are studying. Doing the same task for every topic can get dull...

Active learning!

Have you ever heard of spaced repetition before?

Spaced Repetition

Ever heard of the pomodoro technique?

Pomodoro Technique

I understand how to use one of those techniques

Manage your Learning Environment

Choose a distraction-free area

Is it light enough?

Do you have access to everything you need?

Where can you move to for your breaks?

Is anyone else going to bother me here?

Where do you plan to study? Why?

Group Work!

Getting lonely on study leave is a very real problem for your mood and wellbeing. Studying in a group can be a great way to socialise while still making the most of your revision time BUT it must be done properly...

The Rules

  • Plan in 'chat' breaks

  • Ensure you're only with people you know will focus

  • Share your work, help each other and discuss your topics!

  • Reward yourselves with breaks and snacks.. so long as the work is done!
