WHY?
It is important to enter and leave a room in the right way.  It allows a friendly, organised start and pleasant and safe exit to every lesson. (Remember "sweeping the sheds")

Must be removed before this lesson starts. It should be removed and put on the back of your chair.
Must be in your bag and off. This will be confiscated, if it is seen or heard by your teacher.
Each computer has a pair of these incase you require sound. You must not use your own at any point and they should not be seen in class.
You will be assigned a seat by your teacher. You will sit in this seat each lesson and must not move without your teachers permission.
You should bring expected equipment each lesson
You are not allowed drinks, or food in the computer room. All food and drink must be kept in your bag while in the classroom.
I will be professional and polite. I expect the same in return. I expect you to be polite at all times to everyone.

Independent Learning Tasks

These will be set on MS Teams, shared and reminded vocally in lessons and are set every half term.

Highest ATL scores are dependent on this being done

  • Use MS Teams to stay on top of work and meet deadlines
  • allocate time outside of school to complete work
  • Ask for help when stuck
  • Use school equipment if you don't have suitable at home
  • Be responsible for lessons you miss (email, teams)
  • Remind yourself of the benefits to doing well and give 100%
  • Always stay positive and look for the positives.

Why is Computer Science important?

Some areas that may have been missed
  • Meeting needs of the many (climate change, unemployment, simulation modelling etc...)
  • Advancements in healthcare (data mining)
  • Education (research, clouds, virtual learning, online courses)
  • Communication (social media, video calls, apps)
  •  Automation and AI (prediction, data analysis, cost saving, life saving in hazardous situations)
  • Problem solving - At the heart of CS is the ability to solve a problem, which is a life skill

A future in Computing?
  • Computing is often in top 5 most desirable degrees to take in UK
  • Jobs include - Scientists, Technicians, Instructors,  Consultants, Linguists, Designers, Administrators and Data analysts
  • Starting salaries range between 21-30k
  • Average salaries range between 45-65k (Over £25 per hour)
  • Top tier salary can be in excess of 80k
  • Over 80% employment rate post degree
  • Serious gender gap making it a greater prospect further for women

WHY?
We use many systems and resources which you need to understand in order to be successful at school.  It is important you know how to access your work in and outside of school and know how to load the appropriate software and save files.  This will enable you to succeed from the start and complete Independent learning tasks from home

Log on to office.com and goto the OneDrive. You need to set your folders up for this year - so create:

Explain folder structure and organisation of files.

This is notoriously hard for students so take time to explain what a cloud is and how it works and how the drives in school are mapped to the online cloud

You will need to demo much of this and lead by example.
