Prejudice
  • Think for a minute: Have you ever seen someone and made a judgment about them without meeting them? 
  • If you answer yes, you've had a prejudice towards someone. 
  • Prejudice means a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.
  • Often, prejudice is based on someone's race, gender, or ethnicity

Prejudice Examples
  • Thinking that a girls isn't as smart as boys based on their gender
  • Not liking someone because they are a member of a certain religion 
  • Thinking an older person will be "lame"

Generalization
  • Generalization is the act of forming conclusions from a small amount of information
  • Generalizations can be true: all birds lay eggs
  • Or generalizations can be false: My sister likes painting, therefore all girls like to paint

  • Stereotypes are an assumption about what someone will do or how they will behave based on their traits or what social groups they belong to, such as race.
